My buddy Larry is a Yankees fan. He is legit because he was born in New York and lived there until he was a 10-year-old. He returned to New York after college and currently lives there. His father, Stan is a native New Yorker and was a kid in the 1950's when the Yankees won something like 12 World Series titles in 8 years.
Both father and son are not too obnoxious when it comes to the Yankees. Although that's kinda like saying a particular doctor is good at giving you a throat culture. He makes you gag, but not too much.
After New York wrapped up its 27th title the other night, I have to admit I was little annoyed and told Larry that I was sick of Yankees buying their championships.
Larry asked his dad to respond to my criticisim. Here's what Stan said:
Jonny should know that ENVY is one of the seven deadly sins and he may suffer divine punishment if he continues to begrudge the Yankees their well-earned title. The White Sox try to buy their players too as do all the clubs. Farm systems aren't what they used to be. The Yankees have bought their share--make that more than their share of lemons over the past few years. (See Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano, Kenny Rogers, Kai Igawa, Kevin Brown and more.) But they keep trying which White Sox management doesn't seem to want to do. Whose fault is that?
Nice try. I think the Brewers really wanted to keep C.C. Sabathia this season. They offered him 100 million dollars. However, the Yankees are richer so they offered 160 million.
Here's a good analogy. There's going to a contest for the best dinner party. The contestants are:
Bill Gates (Yankees)
Warren Buffett (Red Sox)
Me (White Sox)
7-year-old child (Pirates)
Sadly, there's no way the 7-year-old and I can compete with Gates and Buffett. They just have too much money. Actually, I think the analogy is not completely accurate. I believe a 9-year-old is actually running the Pirates.
I'm not sure why Pete Yorn decided to name his new music project after a European cave dwelling aquatic salamander, but if he stops by to play us some songs in Studio M, we'll have to ask him.
The Olms is a collaboration between Pete Yorn and...
Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons.
1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels.
2) I used to...

This morning it seemed like just about everyone was in the mood for some Funky Cold Medina...except Kitty. This ridiculous song made it all the way to number 3 in 1989. Jonathan says any song that references advertising dogs from the 80's has got...

It's a miracle that both Jonathan and KItty wanted to hear Barry Manilow this morning. They were not alone. Plenty of Fanilow's called in to vote yes. One caller claimed to have seen Manilow in concert 25 times!
