How that Top 200 Jobs List Got It All Wrong

So I suppose you have seen that ranking of 200 jobs, when it comes to work environment, stress level, and hiring outlook. According to Careercast.com, actuary is #1, and newspaper reporter is #200.

Where does radio personality come in? It took awhile for me to click through the list of jobs, at 20 per page. Hey!  There I am, at #179--Disc Jockey.  Job description: Selects and plays records or tapes; comments on areas of interest to a particular radio audience.

Wait, that can't be me. I haven't played a record or tape in years. This is downright crazy, my job can't rank even LOWER than that? Can it?

Oh here it is, at #185--Broadcaster.  This job description fits more closely. Prepares and delivers news and related presentations over the air on radio and television.  Yep, that's me.  15 away from the bottom of the list.

Now that's just silly!  My work environment is great!  Who wouldn't like to be trapped in a tiny room with Jonathan Suttin at the crack of dawn? And stress?  "Oh my goodness...I just had ten seconds of dead air! Think of the ramifications!" (Okay I do admit I get a little freaked out when I push a wrong button or something when I'm on the air, but I get over it quickly.)

So in conclusion, especially if you are one of my supervisors, I really really love my job. The work environment is pleasant, and the stress is low.   I wouldn't mind hanging on to it for another couple decades.

Because from what I understand the hiring outlook is not that good.

World's Worst iPod: Kajagoogoo "Too Shy"
Gotta love the '80s! Depending on who you're talking to, Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" is either a song that defines the decade, in a good way, or it's a song that gives all other '80s songs a bad name. It made it to #5 on the charts in...

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know about Birthday Boy Neil Young
Happy 69th birthday to my favorite self-proclaimed "rich hippie," Neil Young. I remember when I was a kid, I hated Neil's voice. I didn't even particularly care for his songs CSNY albums, but the guy grew on me, and he's now one of my...

World's Worst iPod: Mac and Katie Kissoon "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep"
There was a lot of love this morning for a song that made it up to #20 in 1971 for the brother sister team of Mac and Katie Kissoon. The pair hailed from Trinidad and this was their only Top 40 hit.

World's Worst iPod: Robbie Nevil "C'est La Vie"
"That's just the way things go," croons Robbie Nevil in the soong "C'est La Vie." Despite the fact that the theme seemed to fit the way a lot of people feel today, there just wasn't enough to support playing it in its entirety. Released...
