As the year winds down, people tend to make lists. Now, I’m not much of a list maker, but here are some artists I fell in love with this year, each for their own reason.
We start with a group that tickled me to no end, Vampire Weekend. They join Barenaked Ladies and They Might be Giants” in what I call “Geek Rock”. They didn’t want to come in and record a Studio M with me, but dropped in for a visit on my show. They were nice and the show, even though they didn’t even come on stage until after 11 PM, was a great time.
We now move to emerging artist Eric Hutchinson. He DID come in for a Studio M, but I was on the air and missed it. I went to the show at the Majestic not really knowing much about him, and was totally captivated by his great piano playing and easy demeanor. His sweater vest was kinda cute as well. Apparently I was not the only new “Hutch-head” because his album Sounds Like This is selling like hotcakes.
Another emerging artist I like a lot is Meiko. Raised in a log cabin in a little town in Georgia, Meiko is witty, writes clever songs and is an all around nice person. Her studio M was awesome and I hope she comes back to Madison soon.
We wind up today’s list with a guy who got a standing ovation at the Barrymore when he opened for Susan Tedeschi, James Hunter. I totally LOVE 60’s soul music and James takes it, runs with it and makes it his own. He came in for a Studio M and I was SOOOO nervous and fan-girl gushy, but he was funny and made me feel right at home. LOVE this guy!
The Broadway musical Wicked has flown back into town, thrilling fans at the Overture Center now through June 9th.

Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons.
1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels.
