World's Worst iPod

It's back! Every Wednesday at 7:15, we play songs from the horrible iPod Kitty found while dumpster diving.

World's Worst iPod "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" BJ Thomas

We went a little bit country for this morning's World's Worst iPod song. BJ Thomas went all the way to #1 on the pop, country and easy listening charts with the song ("Hey, would ya play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song." It was in the year of 1975, which seems to have a mother lode of songs worthy of our treasured iPod.

By the way, Thomas is still alive and well and gigging. If you check out his website, you can find out where "The B.J. Thomas" is playing. (As opposed to that other B.J. Thomas who isn't "the" one).

World's Worst iPod Bette Midler "WInd Beneath My WIngs"

Did you ever know that you're my hero? Bette Midler's song "Wind Beneath My WIngs" went to Number 1 in 1989. It was featured in a movie about death "Beaches," and has probably been played at countless funerals.

It's probably because of the death connection that more people didn't want to hear the song than wanted to hear it. Or the threat of a two-fer with "From A Distance" was just too much to take.

Fun fact: The song won Grammy awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1990.

World's Worst iPod Robert John vs. Kim Carnes

We tried something new today with the World's Worst iPod...pitting two really horrible songs against each other and letting the listeners pick which one gets played in its entirety.

We must thank one of our favorite listeners, who goes by "Crazy Administrator" for suggesting the idea.

Today we pitted "Sad Eyes" by Robert John against "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes. "Sad Eyes" was number one for one week, while "Bette Davis Eyes" sat at that spot for 9 long weeks. It seems the song's popularity continues 34 years later, as it got the most votes this morning.

Which do you prefer?

World's Worst iPod: "Say You, Say Me," Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie was on fire in the 1980's with an amazing string of hits that included "Say You, Say Me," from the movie White Nights. It was number one on the charts for four weeks in 1985 and was the #2 song for the entire year.

It even won an Oscar for crying out loud! A lot of people must have fond memories of this song, because just about everyone who called us this morning wanted to hear it.

Enjoy the video, which includes some great dance moves from the movie White Nights. And if you haven't seen that movie for a while, you can watch the whole thing on youtube here.
