I think we can agree "Baby cried the day the circus came to town..." is not the happiest of opening lines for a song. Melissa Manchester didn't write "Don't Cry Out Loud". It was penned by Peter Allen and Carole Bayer Sager. Machester isn't even the first to release the song, but back in the late 70's Clive Davis thought she could make it a hit. He was right.
