Why Snow Days are Sad for Me

When I was a kid and I would wake up to a winter wonderland, the first thing I would do is turn on my radio.   I’d have my fingers crossed hoping to hear my school on the long list of closings.  It was always so exciting to hear my school mentioned on the radio.

Now I’m the guy on the radio, but sadly times have changed.

These days parents get an email or text from the school telling them if it’s a snow day.  I appreciate the technology and it is a better system.  However, I miss the good old days of waiting for the guy on the radio to tell me I can stay home.

Perhaps I miss it because I finally get to be that guy, but not as many people need to hear it from me.

I agree!
I love listening to the radio for the school closings, still. I am all grown up now, but raising a 10 year old daughter. Yesterday, I may have gotten a text notification - but you can bet that I still listened to hear it "for real" this morning. :-)

Try this one
I work at the UW and of course we got the standard notices letting us know you can take personal time if you don't feel safe coming to work. I did watch the list of closing on the TV at around 6 but didn't see the UW had anything. So, of course, since I didn't expect to hear a list of closures on the radio and I don't turn on the TV or Web I got up, hoped on my bike, crashed and consequently drove to work. I open my email and their it is - we're closed so I'm here with just one other silly person.
