Despite the fact newspapers are dying, I enjoy that it still matters to have your name in print. It’s still better than being mentioned on Facebook or on a blog or in a tweet.
You want proof? Last night Alabama won the BCS Championship by steamrolling over Notre Dame. Look at what the players are holding while celebrating.
They were holding up newspapers. It’s funny because the newspapers were obviously created before the game and then handed out to the players after the game ended. However, it still looks cool. When the White Sox won the World Series back in 2005, I ran out to get a Chicago Tribune. Even though I haven’t subscribed to the paper in years, it still made it more legitimate to see it in print.
There’s still something great about a group of trained professional putting together something for the public as opposed to something like this blog. I wrote it, edited it and posted it without any other input. Is that really such an achievement suitable for framing?
