Welcome to the Toy Hall of Fame!

ballThree new toys have just been inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame: the Gameboy, the Big Wheel, and the ball. And this makes me feel old. Why? The ball is the only one of the three that I was young enough to play with when it came out!  The Gameboy came out in 1989. That's the year I moved to Madison and started working at the state capitol.  The Big Wheel came out in 1969. I was already riding around the block on a 2-wheeler by that year. Okay wise-achers--the ball was invented when I was a kid. Am I a fan of the ball, you might ask? Oh sure--what could possibly be wrong with a ball? It has caused me a bit of trauma over the years. I have nightmares about certain neighborhood Dodgeball games. Even the innocent seeming keep-away game Monkey in the Middle can turn ugly when one of the players (me) is decidedly shorter than the other two. I even unwittingly caused my younger brother to require stitches as an infant..because of the now famed ball. I taught him how to roll around on it on his stomach when he was under a year old and somehow he cracked his chin open. Next time you see him ask to see the scar. You know I think last year's big inductee into the Toy Hall of Fame was a much safer choice: the stick. Unless you take into account that whole poking an eye out  possibility. See the whole list of Hall of Fame toys here.

The problem with holiday sweaters--and it's not that they're ugly
Holiday sweaters--oh we love to mock them! Ugly holiday sweater parties have become so mainstream that I feel they are no longer ironic. But that's not what I'm going to gripe about. My problem is that ugly holiday sweaters are now becoming...

World's Worst iPod: Carl Douglas "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting"
It's hard to believe a novelty song like this went all the way up the charts to number one---but it did, and actually stayed there for two weeks! It seemed most everyone, excluding our meteorologist Brian Olson wanted to hear this song, which came...
