Top 10 Summerfest side-stage shows

Yes, I made it to Summerfest again..for what probably was around the 18th or 19th year a in a row. I went last Tuesday to see Greg Koch, an amazing Milwaukee guitar player known for his "gristle," and Paul Rodgers..the former lead singer of Free and Bad Company. (He also fronted Queen for a while, for what that's worth). He's an amazing front man, and I decided that his show was probably the best Summerfest show in recent memory. The guy still has amazing pipes..and I think sang even better that night than he did on his records! He did most of the Bad Company songs you'd expect and threw in some Free songs as well..including "All Right Now."  An amazing show..and I was lucky enough to be in the front row so my view wasn't blocked by clowns standing on benches in front of me. Anyway..that got me thinking about some of the other Summerfest shows I've seen on side stages over the years..and the ones that really blew me away. I won't include any where the show was too crowded and I couldn't see anything (Jet, Cheap Trick, Brian Setzer come to mind in that category.) Bo Diddley at the Potawatomi Stage, circa 2000 Dickey Betts and Great Southern, also at that stage..about the same time Junior Brown..back when the Potawatomi Stage was still in a tent, 1996 or 1997 Delbert McClinton...at the Miller Lite Oasis, mid-to-late '90s Candye Kane at the Leinenkugel's Stage, 1996 Dave Alvin at the Leinie's Stage..probably the late 1990's John Hiatt, with backup band North Mississippi All Stars, early 2000's Susan Tedeschi at the Potawatomi Tent..1998? BR-549 .. I'm not sure which stage this was at, mid-90's Paul Rodgers at the Miller Lite Oasis, 2011

World's Worst iPod: Kajagoogoo "Too Shy"
Gotta love the '80s! Depending on who you're talking to, Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" is either a song that defines the decade, in a good way, or it's a song that gives all other '80s songs a bad name. It made it to #5 on the charts in...

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know about Birthday Boy Neil Young
Happy 69th birthday to my favorite self-proclaimed "rich hippie," Neil Young. I remember when I was a kid, I hated Neil's voice. I didn't even particularly care for his songs CSNY albums, but the guy grew on me, and he's now one of my...

World's Worst iPod: Mac and Katie Kissoon "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep"
There was a lot of love this morning for a song that made it up to #20 in 1971 for the brother sister team of Mac and Katie Kissoon. The pair hailed from Trinidad and this was their only Top 40 hit.

World's Worst iPod: Robbie Nevil "C'est La Vie"
"That's just the way things go," croons Robbie Nevil in the soong "C'est La Vie." Despite the fact that the theme seemed to fit the way a lot of people feel today, there just wasn't enough to support playing it in its entirety. Released...
