The Wizard of Oz Underground

Today is the 71st anniversary of the release of the best movie ever, The Wizard of Oz. Okay, that designation may be subject to opinion, but if you ask my sister-in-law Donna and me, it certainly is the case. I could go on and on about my favorite parts of the movie, share my favorite quotes, and tell you how excited I was to watch when it was on TV once a year. But I think I've done that before. So instead I'll tell you about my Wizard of Oz puppets. When I was around 5 or 6, Spic and Span (the cleaning powder), gave away free Wizard of Oz puppets. Since they were attached to the box (and not hidden inside), my mom bought a whole bunch of boxes of the stuff so I could have a complete collection, featuring all major cast members. Toto, too? Yes, Toto, too. I thought they were awesome. So awesome in fact that one day I thought it would be a fun idea to bury them in the back yard under the tire swing. I gave them a little funeral. (All except the Cowardly Lion who was lost in the house somewhere.) Then sometime later I decided I wanted them back. So I went to dig them up...and couldn't remember exactly where I had put them. I dug all over the place in the bare dirt under the tire swing, to no avail. I always meant to make another try of it, but never got around to it. Now another family lives in that house..and they've fenced off the backyard, so it would require me to trespass to make another attempt. Who's with me?

You know I am a Wizard of Oz freak. Like you said, best movie ever. Remember when we would go to the bar with Tim and we would do like 15 minutes of dialog, Tim wanted to klunk our heads together to make us stop. You should go to the people at your old house and ask if you can dig them up but since you can't remember where you burried them I think they would sway no. The only thing I can think of is someone took them. Did you tell anybody about your funeral for the characters? Maybe they were jealous and dug them up and took them. Little Thiefs!!! I love Wizarod of Oz and also like the movie The Wiz with Michael Jackson as the scarecrow and Diana Ross played Dorothy (although she was much older than 16 like Judy Garland). DBD

World's Worst iPod:Escape Club "Wild Wild West"
Remember when we were headed for the 90s..and grooving to the Escape Club? This band from London scored a number 1 hit in 1988 with the song "Wild Wild West." It's probably the only song you remember from that band--but they weren't a...

World's Worst iPod: Wayne Newton "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast"
With Father's Day coming up, we thought we'd choose one of the greatest dad songs of all time.  But since that song wasn't on the iPod, we decided to go with "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" by Wayne Newton. This song made...

Day 4: The Final Day of Bonnaroo
Today was another busy day at Bonnaroo. We started the day off by seeing Shakey Graves. I missed his show in Madison earlier this year so he was a must see on my list. Loved him! Right as he ended, a press conference with Ed Helms, Abigail...

Day 3: Saturday
Saturday was a very busy day! So many Triple M bands to see! So many concerts were back to back, so we did a lot of walking back and forth from the stages to the media compound. If you're ever in need of getting more steps in during the day,...

Day 2: Friday - Variety, the Spice of Life
Day 2 is upon us! Despite being up fairly late and not sleeping super well (first time camping...I'll get used to it I'm sure), I was hoping to sleep in just a little bit, but my body had other plans. It woke me up at 5:45am for the hell of it. I...

World's Worst iPod: Engelbert Humperdinck "After the Lovin'"
One of the great things about radio in the 60s and 70s is the variety of music that made it onto the radio.  A rock song by Led Zeppelin could be followed up by Paul Anka or Andy Williams. A polka could make it to top 40 right alongside a disco song...
