Everyone has been reflecting on the life and career of Walter Cronkite the last few days. Many people much more qualified then me to comment on Cronkite have spoken. The only thing I want to add is in video form.
The first video is Cronkite reporting on the assassination of Martin Luther Jr. Today with our short attention spans this type of presentation would no longer work, but it did back in 1968. I know the classic clip is Cronkite talking about the death of JFK and crying. However, this is a great clip as well. The beginning is especially interesting as it looks like Cronkite can't wait for the introduction to be completed so he can deliver the news. It also looks as if he's so annoyed with the stupidity of yet another assassination.
This second clip is very end of the final CBS Evening News Cronkite anchored. Again, I admire how it is so straight forward. No graphics and no special music. Cronkite just talking right to all of us. These days I feel like we're getting to distracted by all the bells and whistles, but I guess that's the way it is...now.
