The Shins Announce Release of New Record

The Shins will drop their fourth record Port Of Morrow in March of next year.  This will be The Shins' first release since 2007's Wincing The Night Away.

James Mercer worked with Danger Mouse on the grammy nominated Broken Bells project a couple years ago and at the time said The Shins, "had started to feel heavy."   Since then he's fired all remaining members of the band.  In fact, one former member is now operating a food truck in Portland.

The new material has been written and almost entirely performed by Mercer.  The Shins now include Yuuki Matthews on bass, Jessica Dobson on guitar, Richard Swift on keys and Modest Mouse drummer Joe Plummer on guitar.  A tour in support of the upcoming release is in the works.

"I started to have production ideas that I wanted to do that basically required some other people," Mercer says. "It's mainly about that. It's an aesthetic decision. It's kind of hard to talk abut stuff like that, isn't it? Because I don't want to bum anybody out. I'm on good terms with those guys, I hope to maintain that."
