World's Worst iPod

It's back! Every morning at 7:15, we play songs from the horrible iPod Kitty found while dumpster diving.

World's Worst iPod: Somebody's Watching Me by Rockwell

In 1984, Rockwell rose to number 2 for 3 weeks in 1984 with "Somebody's Watching Me." The backup singer for the song was Michael Jackson. How did Rockwell get Jackson to help him? Well, Rockwell's real name is Kennedy William Gordy and he was friends with Jackson since childhood. Rockwell's dad is the founder of Motown records.

World's Worst iPod: You Don't Bring Me Flowers

There's only one thing that might be worse than the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." And that's Jonathan Suttin doing his best crooning...doing both parts. Most unpleasant.

A lot of people liked this song when it came out in 1978..enough to make it a #1 record.

You gotta love the way they're slowly drawn to each other in this footage from the Grammies. The chemistry is undeniable.

World's Worst iPod: The Girl is Mine by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney

So the story goes Michael Jackson completed this song while watching cartoons with Paul McCartney. We'll just let that sink in for a moment.

Not sure what cartoons they were watching, but it must have worked because this song made it to number 2 on the charts and sold more than 1 million copies. Things got strange this morning as Jonathan decided to add another song into the mix. That's the one Triple M listeners wanted to hear.

Here's the original...

And here's the Richard Cheese take on the song...

World's Worst iPod: Somethin' Stupid by Frank and Nancy Sinatra

This duet by Ol' Blue Eyes and his daughter went all the way to number 1 back in 1967. It seems a little creepy that Frank and Nancy Sinatra are singing a love song. However, a lot of Triple M listeners were in the mood for it.

Here's another version Jonathan really likes...

World's Worst iPod: Islands in the Stream by Kenny Rogers and Dolly

This week it's World's Worst Duets on the World's Worst iPod. Islands in the Stream was actually written by the Bee Gees, but Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton sang it. The song went to number 1 for two weeks in 1983 and lots of Triple M listeners had great memories connected to it. Jonathan and Kitty didn't really understand the line: "I set off to get you with a fine tooth comb", but they were still happy to play it.

World's Worst iPod: Heartbeat -- It's a Lovebeat by The DeFranco Family featurin

In 1972, Kitty had a few posters of Tony DeFranco. She wasn't alone. A lot of Triple M listeners really wanted to hear the song today. It was number 3 on the charts and the group appeared on American Banstand nine times! Today Tony sells real estate in California. Check out his website.

World's Worst iPod: Mmm Bop by Hanson

It wasn't even close on this one. Just about every Triple M listener wanted to hear this hit from 1997. What amazed Jonathan and Kitty the most was how young so many Triple M listeners were when the song came out. Perhaps it's not that they were young, but Jonathan and Kitty are just OLD.

World's Worst iPod: Long Haired Lover from Liverpool by Little Jimmy Osmond

This song has to be the worst song for "Teen Idol Week" on the World's Worst iPod. It may be the worst song on the entire iPod. It was quite a hit in the United Kingdom as it climbed all the way to number 1 for five weeks there in December of 1972. The youngest Osmond (9 years old at the time of the recording) didn't thrill Americans as much. The song only made it to number 38 here in the U.S.

World's Worst iPod: You Got It (The Right Stuff)

Did you have the NKOTB sleeping bag? Maybe you had all the trading cards, or the comforter and matching New Kids curtains like one listener admitted this morning.
Lots of fans of the teen pop sensations The New Kids on the Block wanted to hear "You Got It (The Right Stuff)," but there were also a lot of haters out there, who wanted no part of this song that was popular in 1989. It was the second song to be featured during our Teen Idols Week.

Enjoy this video, and we promise not to tell anyone you still have that NKOTB pillowcase, stained with your teenage tears.

World's Worst iPod: I Was Made for Dancin' by Leif Garrett

It's Teen Idol Week on the World's Worst iPod! When it comes to teen idols Leif Garrett is one of a kind (thank goodness). This song made it to number 10 in 1978. Leif has had a lot of downs since that time. However, Kitty along with some Triple M listeners really wanted to hear this song again. Can you picture Kitty sitting on her bed reading Tiger Beat and listening to this song?

World's Worst iPod: We Built This City by Starship

First there was Jefferson Airplane followed by Jefferson Starship and then it turned into Starship. That's when things went wrong. We Built This City was a number 1 hit for Starship in 1985. Kitty actually saw Starship from the 10th row while they were touring, but she didn't want to hear the song this morning. Jonathan and Brian were game and so were many Triple M listeners. However, Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit was played instead.

Here are both songs for your listening pleasure.

World's Worst iPod: Swaying to the Music (Slow Dancin') by Johnny Rivers

Johnny Rivers did a little slow dancing in 1977. He swayed all the way to number 10 that year. For some unknown reason both Jonathan and Kitty were in the mood for this one. So were most Triple M listeners.

World's Worst iPod: Unbelievable by EMF

In 1991 we were all rocking out to this tune by EMF. What did EMF stand for anyway? It really doesn't matter. This song made it to number 1 in July of '91.
