Looking over the birthday list for today--I noticed that Sal Valentino turns 68 today. Who? He was singer for the 1960's group the Beau Brummels. But since I was still a little young to follow the top of the pops back then, my first introduction to them was on the cartoon The Flintstones, where they appeared as the Beau Brummelstones on Wilma and Betty's favorite show, Shin Rock (a takeoff on Shindig).
With a name like the Beau Brummels, you'd think they were British, but they were actually from San Francisco. And some theorize they got a boost in popularity because their records were filed in stores alphabetically right behind another band that was kinda popular at the time. Hmmmm...who could that be?
