It’s fun to make predictions. Many times when I go to a baseball game with friends, I’ll predict a batter will hit a home run. 99% of the time I’m wrong, but when I’m right it’s so much fun. Of course, when I made that prediction only two or three people hear it and it’s no big deal if I get it wrong.
However, Ryan Kalil is really putting himself in a tough position. Kalil is an NFL player. He’s the starting center for the Carolina Panthers. He recently took out a full page ad in the Charlotte Observer guaranteeing the Panthers would win the Super Bowl this season.
Yikes!
I like his confidence, but I’m not sure I like his common sense. It’s great to be a motivator for your teammates, but this might be a bit much. Yes, a million years ago Joe Namath predicted the Jets would win Super Bowl III. However, he did it three days before the big game and he was drunk.
I guess the one saving grace for Kalil is the sad fact that not many people look at the newspaper anymore. Just imagine if he would have tweeted his prediction.
