What does Kitty have to say?

Summer's here--let's eat!

popsicleIn honor of the first day of summer on Sunday, I present: Top Ten Summer Foods (in no particular order) 1. Popsicles: Banana or root beer are the preferred flavors. 2. Bratwurst. 3. Pasta salad (someday I'll give you my recipe for the world's easiest pasta salad) 4. Pizza (because you order it when it's too hot to turn the oven on) 5. Soft-serve ice cream (have you ever been to Belts in Stevens Point? It's a veritable institution!) 6. Toasted marshmallows, or if you get really fancy, s'mores. 7. Kool-Aid.  Okay I know it's a beverage, but so what. Black cherry's the best flavor, hands down! 8. Sugar sandwiches. Just sprinkle some sugar on white bread and fold it over. If I couldn't find anything sweet in the house, this worked in a pinch when I was a kid. 9. Strawberries. The store bought kind you get the rest of the year suck! 10. Beer!  (Just because).

blue raspberry popsicles also rock. And creamsicles! I'm remembering these from my childhood, too. And corn on the cob. Grilled anything. lemonade. sun tea. peaches. rhubarb pie. tomatoes from the garden.

While walking from the parking lot into a store on Friday afternoon, I commented to my boyfriend, "It's really weird, but I'm craving a glass of Kool-Aid right now". I'm sure it was because it was so hot out and it was taking me back to those carefree summer days of childhood. I always made my sugar sandwiches with butter and brown sugar. Sometimes the bread was toasted first. I like frozen fruit salad (the kind with whipped cream mixed in & cut into squares). Sometimes it's so hot that's all I want to eat.

World's Worst iPod: Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor
Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Kitty used to be a Goth--almost
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture. I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons. 1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels. 2) I used to...

World's Worst iPod: Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loc
This morning it seemed like just about everyone was in the mood for some Funky Cold Medina...except Kitty. This ridiculous song made it all the way to number 3 in 1989. Jonathan says any song that references advertising dogs from the 80's has got...
