Stuck at the airport

If you've ever been stuck at the airport due to some kind of delay, you probably pass the time similar to the way I do. You read. Play with your phone. Browse the closest newsstand. Buy a 4-dollar banana. But what if you were in a security lockdown because some bozo went through the security screening through the exit instead of the entrance? Well that's what happened in Newark, NJ the other day, and some passengers were "locked down" while every one was re-screened and they looked for the guy. (They never found him). That probably would have freaked me out a bit...but that was not the case with a musician who happened to be affected by that situation. He decided to have a little sing-a-long, to "Hey Jude" by the Beatles. Most of the people who were there seemed pretty into it! By the way his name is Josh Wilson, and if you're intrigued, you can get more info at www.joshwilsonmusic.com.

Being lucky enough to be stuck in the terminal when a musician creates an impromptu concert is cool. But you can't always count on finding cool people by such randomness. On LayoverLink.com, the airport social network, members can find other LayoverLink members who are in the same airport at the same time. The site works based on the airport, and arrival and departure times that you and other users provide. If your time in the terminal matches other LL members, you'll see a list of those users. Find friends, college buds or coworkers. Send them a message and pick a place to meet up and hang out. (The site also inlcudes a listing of all the shops & restaurants in more than 100 airports in the US and Canada.)

Kitty's night in a haunted house
Before Friday, my only experience with a haunted house, commercial or otherwise, was at the Recreation Department in Stevens Point when I was a teenager, and as I remember I was FREAKED out. So I was a little nervous when Jonathan and I were asked to...

World's Worst iPod: El DeBarge "Who's Johnny"
A lot of people seemed to have fond memories of this questionable song from 1986. "Who's Johnny" was the first solo hit for the guy named El DeBarge, and it went to number 3 on the charts. Some of you might remember it from the movie "Short...

Finally, recognition of Stevie Ray Vaughan by the Rock Hall
The new list of nomines for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is out, and finally they give a nod to Stevie Ray Vaughan. The Rock Hall has passed Stevie by for the more than ten years that he's been eligible, causing me and other blues fans much...

You might want to see "Once" twice
I had the opportunity to go see "Once" at Overture Hall last night, and I guess the two word summary of my review could be "weirdly awesome." The story isn't too complicated, which is good because I sometimes had a hard time understanding the...

World's Worst iPod: Stonebolt "I Will Still Love You"
It seems Kitty was all alone in the Canadian wilderness with her love for the 1978 hit "I Will Still Love You" by Stonebolt. It only made it up to #29, so it seems a lot of folks didn't have the fond memories of the song that she did. With amazing...

World's Worst iPod: Neil Diamond "Yesterday's Songs"
Even Neil Diamond fans didn't seem to want to throw their support behind this one. "Yesterday's Songs" with its cheesy backup singers may be the most cliche song the guy does! It made it up to #11 on the charts in 1981/82 and was #1 on the...

In honor of National Punctuation Day
Today is National Punctuation Day! It's a day to geek out about exclamation points, semi-colons, ampersands and commas. It's also a day to go back into the Radio Way-Back Machine, and listen to this song by Dan Baird. It was a minor hit in...
