Have you heard the song "Rumble and Sway" yet on Triple M?
The singer sounds like a raspy blues dude who's definitely been around the block a few times....but surprisingly, Jamie N. Commons is only 23 years old!
He was born in England, but spent many of his formative years in Chicago, where he grew up listening to the blues. His first concert was an Allman Brothers Band show, where he says he smelled something funny in the air and a guy next to them kept hooting.
Eventually he moved back to England, went to music school, and then started making a name for himself. In March of this year, he released the EP "Rumble and Sway" in the United States.
If you go to Jamie's website and sign up for his email list, you can get a free download of the song "The Preacher."
Last week, I decided I would try one new, healthy food a week, and asked my facebook friends to make some suggestions.
The first thing I tried was mango. I'm sure I've had other mango flavored things, and mango as part of something else, but it was the first time I bought the actual fruit and ate it. It was tasty and sweet, but a bit messy and hard to deal with. And now my sister tells me that a lot of people are allergic to the skin of mangoes, which are a relative of the poison ivy family.
So this week I tried kale. I looked through a bunch of recipes and found nothing that sounding particularly appetizing...so I made something up. I removed the stems, then ripped up the kale leaves and stir fried them with onion, garlic powder and olive oil. That didn't take long! When they were wilted, I added in some red wine vinegar, and finally topped them with some Trader Joe's peanut satay sauce and a few peanuts.
It was delicious! It was chewier than expected..because that's okay. That way it seemed heartier than other greens like spinach. I know I still used something pre-processed (the Trader Joe's sauce), but still a healthy choice.
There's only one thing that might be worse than the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." And that's Jonathan Suttin doing his best crooning...doing both parts. Most unpleasant.
A lot of people liked this song when it came out in 1978..enough to make it a #1 record.
You gotta love the way they're slowly drawn to each other in this footage from the Grammies. The chemistry is undeniable.

In Their Words: "Alchemilla had been trying to write a ballad for a little while but it wasn't happening. There was some turmoil happening in some of our lives and I tried to channel that into a song about a disintegrating relationship. I wanted to incorporate ideas of betrayal and and chaos into the lyrics, and used the car ride as a metaphor for feeling helpless, and sort of giving in to that chaos. I don't know if it's a ballad but it's one of my favorites that we've written." -- Singer Kat Burke
Last weeks challenge we thought went excellent! Of course we are a little biased.
The drinking song couldn't have been any better, or any less fun. We had a blast through out the whole process, and our performance rocked.
This week is an easy week (At least until we get the twist on Friday). Its to play our best signature song. We'll see what else comes in store on Friday, but as of now, were just gonna practice getting it tight, and putting some high energy into it. Looking forward to another week! Woot!
So the story goes Michael Jackson completed this song while watching cartoons with Paul McCartney. We'll just let that sink in for a moment.
Not sure what cartoons they were watching, but it must have worked because this song made it to number 2 on the charts and sold more than 1 million copies. Things got strange this morning as Jonathan decided to add another song into the mix. That's the one Triple M listeners wanted to hear.
The Dalai Lama is back in town, sharing his message of peace and kindness with likeminded individuals, and the Wisconsin legislature. He also held a private meeting with Gov. Walker, who said he mostly listened to what His Holiness had to say (wise move).
One of the other times that the Dalai Lama visited, it came to my attention that his wise advice is not that different from another well-known prophet...yeah, you guessed it, Dolly Parton.
Can you tell the Dalai Lama quotes from the Dollyquotes? Answers below. No peeking!
1. Storms make trees take deeper roots.
2. Computers totally blank me out.
3. Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.
4. Leave something good in every day.
5. If you don't like the road you're walking, pave another one.
This duet by Ol' Blue Eyes and his daughter went all the way to number 1 back in 1967. It seems a little creepy that Frank and Nancy Sinatra are singing a love song. However, a lot of Triple M listeners were in the mood for it.
Chris Hadfield is a Canadian astronaut who's currently living on the International Space Station, and apparently he had some free time on his hands. He's made a pretty amazing video featuring his cover of the David Bowie song "Space Oddity," and it's gone viral on the internet, with more than a million views in one day!
Hadfield recorded the vocals and guitar on the space station, and the rest of the instrumentation was created back here on Earth.
Hadfield's singing voice is not bad--and the images on the video are pretty gorgeous. That is if you can stop staring at Hadfield's mustache long enough to notice!
This week it's World's Worst Duets on the World's Worst iPod. Islands in the Stream was actually written by the Bee Gees, but Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton sang it. The song went to number 1 for two weeks in 1983 and lots of Triple M listeners had great memories connected to it. Jonathan and Kitty didn't really understand the line: "I set off to get you with a fine tooth comb", but they were still happy to play it.
