Roots Festival Starting to Have Some Roots

roots2On Saturday we here at Triple M had our 3rd annual Roots Festival and it's getting better and better each year.  I had a chance to talk with many of you and find out what you like and dislike about Triple M.  The majority of comments were positive, but I still get plenty of static for being a fan of the Chicago Bears. Of course, I'll be biased but it was an incredible afternoon and evening.  Our local musicians, Mike Droho and Natty Nation didn't disappoint.  Both brought tons of energy and great music to the main stage.  The other local musicians, Whitney Mann, Mark Harrod and Corey Hart also did a great job on our second stage (The Century House Lounge). Maia Sharp, who has written hits for Bonnie Raitt and the Dixie Chicks, was amazing.  Cory Chisel showed us why Rolling Stone magazine chose his song "Born Again" as the next great tune. Willy Porter and his band had a great time on stage and reminded us why we like having come back to play in Madison whenever possible. However, Ms. Bettye Lavette stole the show.  I knew it was going to be an incredible performance when I handed her the microphone back stage and she started to sing before even getting on stage.   Her passion and dedication to music was obvious and she really touch the crowd.  During some of her songs there were people in the crowd who started to cry.  I didn't cry, but I did get goosebumps a couple of times during her set.

World's Worst iPod: Harper Valley PTA
In 1968, Jeannie C. Riley topped both the pop and country charts with "Harper Valley PTA". She was the first female singer to accomplish that feat and it wasn't repeated until Dolly Parton did it in 1981 with the song "9 to 5". The song was...

Here To Help
One small detail I like about Bonnaroo ... the security people's shirts say "Safety" and "Here to help". They seem well-trained and they do the things security folk do ... but I like the emphasis on safety and that they're doing these things...
