You can’t be too careful. I’ve heard that saying many times, but I’m not so sure I believe it anymore. Former shuttle commander Alan Poindexter was killed over the weekend in a jet-ski accident with his son. Poindexter was commander for two separate space shuttle missions and survived them both. Now he’s gone at the age of 50 because of a freak accident.
Former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford was almost killed standing on a street corner talking to constituents when a crazy person opened fire killing several in the crowd. Meanwhile, her husband Mark Kelly was a lot safer on the space shuttle’s final mission a few months later.
Comedian Steven Wright once told the joke, “I’ve heard most accidents happen within two miles of home…so I moved.”
We hear many stories of people surviving underneath piles of rubble for days and other people dying quickly after falling down the stairs at home. What’s the point? I guess there isn’t one except you shouldn’t be too careful because that might be dangerous.
