Today would have been the 80th birthday of rock and roll pioneer Carl Perkins, one of the rockers rockers admire most.
When George Harrison was a teenager, he liked to call himself "Carl." Some of the biggest rock stars of all time recorded his songs, and scrambled at the chance to play with him.
Pick up the 1996 tribute CD "Go Cat Go" and check out the list of performers..Tom Petty, Paul Simon, Bono, Johnny Cash..and all four Beatles are on there! Even Hendrix covered Mr. Perkins.
If you can find a copy, check out the documentary "Blue Suede Shoes, A Rockabilly Session," which featured quite the list of guest stars--among them Eric Clapton George Harrison and Dave Edmunds.
