Rock and Roll Time Machine

A ride in the musical time machine can be a pretty costly proposition. Some of the new old rock and roll coming out these days is NOT CHEAP! neilarchives Neil Young has a new 10-disc DVD set out on Blu-ray that'll set you back $349.99 retail. That's not a typo....nearly 350-dollars! Neil Young Archives 1963-1972 goes all the way back to Neil's first band in Winnipeg, the Squires, and covers his time with Buffalo Springfield as well as the beginning of his solo career, as well as the start of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. It includes nearly 60 previously unreleased songs, rare interviews, radio commercials, and a hardcover book with more archival material. It will come out on regular CD later, but Neil chose Blu-ray for its superior sonic quality.  My question is, are people really buying this? And if so, can I borrow it? woodstock1Want to jump in the Rock and Roll Time Machine and go to upstate New York, August 1969?  This year marks the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, and just in time for Father's Day, they're re-releasing the movie, AGAIN. Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music Directors Cut 40th Anniversary Edition will only set you back 59.98, retail. (Bonus: it is in a groovy looking fringed box!)  And on June 30th, you can buy another Woodstock CD box set. The Woodstock Experience features complete performances from 5 of the performers at the festival: Santana, Janis Joplin, Sly and The Family Stone, Johnny Winter and Jefferson Airplane. The 10-cd set includes 25 previously unreleased tracks, 6 posters and other stuff that's kind of cool that you'll probably look at once. Set aside $99.99 for that one. When I was first buying records, I saved up my babysitting money to pick up classics from Supertramp, REO Speedwagon, and Styx. Just think how long I'd have to babysit to buy this stuff!

We still miss you Stevie Ray Vaughan
It's hard to believe it's been 24 years since we lost Stevie Ray Vaughan in that helicopter crash after a show at Alpine Valley. I've talked to lots of people who were at that concert, which also featured Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and...

World's Worst iPod: Donny Osmond "Soldier of Love"
It's hard to believe that Donny Osmond scored his second biggest solo hit in 1989, but it's true! "Soldier of Love" went all the way to #2 on the charts. When the song was released, the record company was afraid no one would buy a...

World's Worst iPod: Exile "Kiss You All Over"
Kitty thought this song was an example of country disco and was not a fan...but just about everybody else was. "Kiss You All Over" was #1 for four weeks in 1978, and was probably one of the year's best songs. Exile rocks out with the...

The next Jonny Lang? Quinn Sullivan is the real deal
I was up in Wausau for the Big Bull Falls Blues Fest, and had a great time watching all the great live music. The big surprise of the day was the guy who played at 3pm. He's just 15 years old and is a good friend of Buddy Guy, and even got to play...

World's Worst iPod: Young MC "Bust a Move"
Kitty apppeared to be all alone on her dislike of this song, which made it to #7 on the charts in 1989. Rolling Stone described the song this way: "a G-rated funk-bomb integral to hip-hop's eventual mainstream acceptance." The...
