Can some one who doesn't really like Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons like the musical Jersey Boys?
It features a whole lot of Four Seasons songs...a lot of falsetto. A lot of doo-woppiness.
None of which I enjoy.
But this musical was FANTASTIC. I went Friday night to see Jersey Boys at Overture Center, and I wasn't sure that I would like it, because I've never been a fan of songs like "Sherry Baby," "Rag Doll," or even "Oh What a Night (December 1963)."
The singing is great, the story has a little bit of everything..mob drama, comedy..and a little sex thrown in for good measure. I wasn't bothered by the "authentic Jersey language" that was featured. And I really enjoyed seeing some of the older members of the audience getting into the music...some of them couldn't help but start dancing!
If you like the music of Franki Valli and the Four Seasons, you'll love this show. If you change the radio station every time any of their music comes on, you'll still love it!
And you know, I may not change the station the next time I hear one of their songs on the radio. And if you go see the play, you'll understand why Franki Vallie did stuff like this chewing gum commercial.
