Restaurant Week: The Wise at Hotel Red

For Madison Magazine's Restaurant Week my wife Lindsay, my son Joshua and I went to The Wise located inside Hotel Red.  This is an upscale and very modern looking restaurant space and I wondered if Joshua (who is just 9 months old) would be out of place.

To be on the safe side, we opted to sit outside.  The staff was very friendly and accommodating.  Our server, Chris has a 10 month old so he didn't think twice about Joshua flinging a few Cheerios on the floor.

I'm sure Joshua was more than a little jealous of our meals.  Lindsay started off with the gazpacho.  It had just the right amount of kick to it plus a side of crisp veggie relish.  I tasted it and loved it.  Joshua liked the Cheerios better.  I chose a garden salad which featured a Dancing Honey Bee and lavender dressing.  I'm not familiar with Dancing Honey Bee, but it was delicious.

Lindsay went with the scallops for the main course.  It was served with an heirloom tomato and avocado salad with passion fruit vinaigrette.

Joshua did enjoy a few bites of the tomatoes as well as the scallops.  I also had a few bites and the scallops melted in my mouth.

I went with the short ribs for a main course.  The ribs were slow cooked in a Guinness & pomegranate demi with  potatoes drizzled with a garlic & peppercorn oil.  Both Lindsay and Joshua tasted the ribs and loved them.  I didn't really want to share.

Joshua got his first taste of cake when he had a bite of Lindsay's citrus olive cake.  It was served with homemade blueberry jam and mascarpone cheese.  Yes, he loved it!  I went with the raspberry and truffle torte.  I was going to give Joshua a bit, but I didn't want him to become totally addicted to chocolate...yet.
