What does Jonathan have to say?

Restaurant Week: 43 North

It's Restaurant Week here in Madison and I had a chance to try out 43 North. It's the brand new restaurant on King Street where Cafe Continental was located for years.  Lindsay and I went to eat with a couple of friends who we had taken to Cafe Continental about a year ago.  It was hard to believe it was the same place.  Although the manager told me the whole thing was remodeled in just about two weeks, it was hard to believe. As soon as you walk in, it feels like a totally different place.  There's not a lot of art on the walls or curtains in the window.  It has a very clean and crisp feel to it. The staff can also be described as crisp.  Our waiter was quite knowledgeable and dressed in black with a light blue tie which featured the 43 North logo very subtly stitched near the bottom.  He describe all the first, second and third course items in great detail.  I can't recreate his amazing descriptions, but I felt like I was getting an education in new food and food preparations. One of the items on the menu was hazelnut cannelloni, mushrooms, braised greens and banyuls emulsion.  Another was braised beef cheek, fontina cheese raviolo and beef jus.  I know what you're thinking.  How many times do we have to eat braised beef cheek and I can't believe the hazelnut cannelloni has banyuls emulsion?! Seriously, the presentation of the food was amazing.  The taste?  What do you think?  It was fantastic. We sat down for dinner at about 7pm and didn't leave until close to 10pm.  The time flew as conversation was good, but the food and atmosphere was even better. 43 North is not just a place to visit during Madison Magazine's Restaurant Week, but should also be in your roster of big city restaurants that we're lucky enough to have right here in Madison.

Have you heard the song "Rumble and Sway" yet on Triple M? The singer sounds like a raspy blues dude who's definitely been around the block a few times....but surprisingly, Jamie N. Commons is only 23 years old! He was born in England, but...

New food of the week: Kale
Last week, I decided I would try one new, healthy food a week, and asked my facebook friends to make some suggestions. The first thing I tried was mango. I'm sure I've had other mango flavored things, and mango as part of something else, but...

World's Worst iPod: You Don't Bring Me Flowers
There's only one thing that might be worse than the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." And that's Jonathan Suttin doing his best crooning...doing both parts. Most unpleasant. A lot of people liked this song...

Getting It Tight
Last weeks challenge we thought went excellent! Of course we are a little biased. The drinking song couldn't have been any better, or any less fun. We had a blast through out the whole process, and our performance rocked. This week is an easy...

World's Worst iPod: The Girl is Mine by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney
So the story goes Michael Jackson completed this song while watching cartoons with Paul McCartney. We'll just let that sink in for a moment. Not sure what cartoons they were watching, but it must have worked because this song made it to number 2...

World's Worst iPod: Somethin' Stupid by Frank and Nancy Sinatra
This duet by Ol' Blue Eyes and his daughter went all the way to number 1 back in 1967. It seems a little creepy that Frank and Nancy Sinatra are singing a love song. However, a lot of Triple M listeners were in the mood for it. Here's...
