Restaurant Review: Osteria Papvero

Osteria Papvero: Delizioso!

Every time I go to this restaurant, I wonder why I don't go here at least once a week.  The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is even better.   As soon as Lindsay and I sat down for dinner, I knew I had a problem because all the choices on the Restaurant Week menu sounded fantastic.

As a first course Lindsay ordered the Ribollita.  It’s a thick soup with Tuscan kale, country-style bread, borlotti and cannellini beans.  I, of course, had a few spoonfuls and was impressed.  I ordered the Assaggio di Pesce: a shellfish and seafood sampler.  It consisted of a delicious scallop cake, an oyster and some calamari.  I’m a sucker for all those items so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed.

For a main course, Lindsay had the Cappe Sante: seared scallops, citrus and watercress salad with toasted almonds.  The scallops had amazing flavor and the orange and grapefruit slices were a perfect side.  I went with the Lombatello alla Griglia: a grilled hanger steak, potato puree and wild mushroom ragout.  The steak was tender, the potato puree was not too buttery and the wild mushroom ragout was delicious.

Lindsay chose Budino di Caramello: Butterscotch pudding for dessert.  I tend to not be a big fan of butterscotch, but that changed after tasting her dessert.  I went with Torta Barozzi: chocolate-coffee-almond cake, orange compote and toasted pistachios.   The cake had intense chocolate flavor, but it wasn't too rich.   I was a little skeptical when I saw the orange compote on top of the cake, but loved it instantly.

The service at Osteria Papvero is always friendly, but not intrusive.  Its cozy atmosphere always makes me feel like I’m getting a home cooked meal from a friend who happens to be an amazing chef.

Have you heard the song "Rumble and Sway" yet on Triple M? The singer sounds like a raspy blues dude who's definitely been around the block a few times....but surprisingly, Jamie N. Commons is only 23 years old! He was born in England, but...

New food of the week: Kale
Last week, I decided I would try one new, healthy food a week, and asked my facebook friends to make some suggestions. The first thing I tried was mango. I'm sure I've had other mango flavored things, and mango as part of something else, but...

World's Worst iPod: You Don't Bring Me Flowers
There's only one thing that might be worse than the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." And that's Jonathan Suttin doing his best crooning...doing both parts. Most unpleasant. A lot of people liked this song...

Getting It Tight
Last weeks challenge we thought went excellent! Of course we are a little biased. The drinking song couldn't have been any better, or any less fun. We had a blast through out the whole process, and our performance rocked. This week is an easy...

World's Worst iPod: The Girl is Mine by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney
So the story goes Michael Jackson completed this song while watching cartoons with Paul McCartney. We'll just let that sink in for a moment. Not sure what cartoons they were watching, but it must have worked because this song made it to number 2...

World's Worst iPod: Somethin' Stupid by Frank and Nancy Sinatra
This duet by Ol' Blue Eyes and his daughter went all the way to number 1 back in 1967. It seems a little creepy that Frank and Nancy Sinatra are singing a love song. However, a lot of Triple M listeners were in the mood for it. Here's...
