Record Store Day

Saturday April 17th is going to be a great day for Vinyl Junkies!  Several Madison independent record stores are planning special events for the 3rd Annual Record Store Day..and record labels and distributors are shipping out $1.3 million in product especially for the day, 90 percent of it on vinyl. What will collectors be chomping at the bit to get? Among the items set for release: a John Lennon box set of 45's, a 45 of the Beatles "Rain/Paperback Writer" (limited to 1000 copies), a reissue of R.E.M's Chronic Town on blue vinyl, plus stuff from Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, and Bruce Springsteen. Here's a bizarre one: the Flaming Lips remake of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Muse, Owl City, Phoenix, and the Def-tones will also have vinyl only singles that they'll be releasing. Selection will vary depending on the store--so you might want to call ahead to see what's available at your favorite record store. Madison stores taking part include B-Side, Exclusive Company, MadCity Music Exchange, Strictly Discs and Sugar Shack. Find out more about Record Store Day here. Bonus--they're also offering two free downloads from Widespread Panic.
