Record Store Day: Black Friday Edition

While some folks will be getting up early on the day after Thanksgiving to try and get their hands on a super cheap big screen TV or overhyped toy, others will be heading out to get some cool vinyl deals on Record Store Day (the Black Friday edition).

I was perusing the list of records that will be available at participating stores (while supplies last, of course)...and it looks like there's something for just about every type of vinyl junkie.

Some of the things that piqued my interest:

*David Bowie: 7" vinyl picture disc of JeanGenie

*Bob Dylan: 7 " single of Duquesne Whistle (title song of his newest album)

*Grateful Dead "Live at Winterland" 5/30/71  gatefold double album set

*Wanda Jackson "Capitol Rarities" 10 " vinyl

*Buck Owens "Buck Sings Eagles" 10" vinyl

*Rolling Stones EP (reissue of the 1964 original)

*The White Stripes (3 different 7" singles on colored vinyl)

Please note: not all releases available in all stores.

More about the Black Friday releases and Record Store Day here.

Participating Madison stores include:
Exclusive Company 508 State Street

Mad City Music Exchange 600 Williamson Street

Strictly Discs 1900 Monroe Street

Sugar Shack Records 2301 Atwood Avenue

B-Side Records 436 State Street

World's Worst iPod: Carl Douglas "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting"
It's hard to believe a novelty song like this went all the way up the charts to number one---but it did, and actually stayed there for two weeks! It seemed most everyone, excluding our meteorologist Brian Olson wanted to hear this song, which came...

Rock Hall gets it right, honors Stevie Ray Vaughan
When the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2015 inductees this morning, I was very happy to see one of the names on the list: Stevie Ray Vaughan. Even though the late Texas guitar slinger has been eligible to get in since 2008, this is the...

Jeff the Promo Guy's Top 2014 Picks
2014 had a ton of great new album releases, and I easily came up with more than 10 to reference. I would have loved to include The Fray, Angus & Julia Stone, Bleachers, Alt-J, and George Ezra… but they just didn't make it on my Top 10 list. Here...

World's Worst iPod: Digital Underground "Humpty Dance"
Apparently everyone who was in middle school in 1990 was listening to our show this morning, because support was overwhelming for "Humpty Dance." The song with its wild and crazy rhymes and infectious beat went all the way to #11 on the charts that...
