What does Gabby have to say?

Ladies Rock Camp Beckons

I'm sure it's no secret that I am a music freak. I was the kid who always had the radio on, but playing music on records and radio and playing an instrument are 2 different things.

I took piano lessons when I was a kid, from 4th grade until my senior year in HS. I never was able to play " by ear", and I hated practicing. I took oboe lessons for one year, but I kept breaking the reed on my braces. Reeds were 75 cents each and that was a lot of money for a Jr  High student  back then.
I went to a music and art camp one summer, and played the drums. I was in a jug band my freshman year in college, playing tambourine and kazoo. That is my entire sum of music performing, until THIS WEEKEND!!

On Friday, I begin 3 days of Ladies Rock Camp, where I will learn to play the bass ( I chose my instrument), we will form a band, write an original song and perform it in front of an audience at a showcase Sunday evening at the Brink Lounge
For someone who has always admired musicians, I'm so excited I get a tiny taste of what their lives are like. So wish me luck and come out and watch all the bands ( there should be 5 of them) on Sunday.

Gabby, it was such a pleasure working with you! I have so admired your work on 105.5 Triple M, and was delighted to be in your band. Your perspective on music and professional musicians was informed and inspiring. Looking forward to our next jam session! Gail, from "Push"

World's Worst iPod: Kajagoogoo "Too Shy"
Gotta love the '80s! Depending on who you're talking to, Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" is either a song that defines the decade, in a good way, or it's a song that gives all other '80s songs a bad name. It made it to #5 on the charts in...

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know about Birthday Boy Neil Young
Happy 69th birthday to my favorite self-proclaimed "rich hippie," Neil Young. I remember when I was a kid, I hated Neil's voice. I didn't even particularly care for his songs CSNY albums, but the guy grew on me, and he's now one of my...

World's Worst iPod: Mac and Katie Kissoon "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep"
There was a lot of love this morning for a song that made it up to #20 in 1971 for the brother sister team of Mac and Katie Kissoon. The pair hailed from Trinidad and this was their only Top 40 hit.

World's Worst iPod: Robbie Nevil "C'est La Vie"
"That's just the way things go," croons Robbie Nevil in the soong "C'est La Vie." Despite the fact that the theme seemed to fit the way a lot of people feel today, there just wasn't enough to support playing it in its entirety. Released...
