Pilgrimage to Macon

allmanbrosI think Mike and I will probably be making a pilgrimage To Macon, Georgia..probably early next year. Why? I just found out that a house the Allmann Brothers Band used to live in there is being turned into a museum. When Mike and I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few years ago, I think he spent 30 minutes just staring at one of Duane Allmann's guitars. The way it was displayed, you could see it from many angles, so Mike just kept walking around and around it, thinking about all the great music that had been made with that Les Paul Gold Top. So we may have to schedule several days to see this place. The three-story Tudor, which the band called the Big House, will open as a museum in December. It will include more than 300,000 (!) pieces of memorabilia, including Gregg Allman's Hammond Organ and Duane Allman's jacket, which was draped over a guitar case next to his coffin during his funeral. Duane Allman's bedroom will be decorated the way he had it, and visitors can see the seven-head community shower on the second floor. (Um...too much information?) The band moved into the house in 1970 and supposedly wrote songs like "Ramblin' Man" and "Midnight Rider" there. They were evicted in 1973 and since then the house has been a beauty parlor and a lawyer's house.

Gotta love the '80s! Depending on who you're talking to, Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" is either a song that defines the decade, in a good way, or it's a song that gives all other '80s songs a bad name. It made it to #5 on the charts in...

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know about Birthday Boy Neil Young
Happy 69th birthday to my favorite self-proclaimed "rich hippie," Neil Young. I remember when I was a kid, I hated Neil's voice. I didn't even particularly care for his songs CSNY albums, but the guy grew on me, and he's now one of my...

World's Worst iPod: Mac and Katie Kissoon "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep"
There was a lot of love this morning for a song that made it up to #20 in 1971 for the brother sister team of Mac and Katie Kissoon. The pair hailed from Trinidad and this was their only Top 40 hit.
