What does Kitty have to say?

Open-backed gowns and bedpans...

Just wanted to let everybody know that starting next Wednesday, I'll be away from Triple M for awhile. I'm having back surgery at UW Hospital and will be out for 4 to 6 weeks. I was born with a birth defect called spina bifida..which basically means my spine didn't form completely. I had surgery for that when I was three..and a few subsequent orthopedic surgeries until the age of 19. (When I fill out a medical history form I usually just write "various" on the section where you list previous surgeries).  Now I need something called "tethered cord release," which involves correcting the situation in which my spinal cord and various nerves got all tangled up. (That is not a very technical explanation, I know.) So this is going to be my first surgery in a very long time...and of course I'm nervous about it. I know UW Hospital is the best, and I've heard lots of great things about my surgeon, Dr. Iskandar, so that helps. I'm trying to do my best to stay positive..because that can only help. Plus, Farm Aid is October 2nd...so I've got to be recovered sufficiently to attend!

If you need beer (or anything else for that matter), just give me a holler. :) I hope everything goes smoothly, that you heal quickly, and that we hear from you soon.

Hey Kitty, I know you'll do great and UW is the best. We are so fortunate to live in this town where such an amazing hospital is literally down the street from us. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to help. The kids and I can make you a meal or two if you'd like. Please remember we are right next door so don't hesitate to ask for anything at all. Take care! You're favorite neighbor.

Hey Kitty!! I'm 2.5 weeks post op from a spinal fusion at UW, and I'm doing great!!! They take such good care of you there, except of course for not letting you sleep at night. You're in such good hands. As for the shampoo deal, well I couldn't shower for 5 days, yuck, I did try some dry shampoo, which I think worked ok if you don't let your hair get too dirty to begin with. :0) Start using it right away. Best of luck, you'll be feeling so much beter in no time!! Listen to the doc and REALLY let your body rest, that's the hard part!! ((HUGSS) Dawn

A Wicked good time!
The Broadway musical Wicked has flown back into town, thrilling fans at the Overture Center now through June 9th. I got a chance to see the production for the 2nd time last night, and once again was blown away. Even though I saw Wicked in 2010, I had...

Free download: Pete Yorn's new project
I'm not sure why Pete Yorn decided to name his new music project after a European cave dwelling aquatic salamander, but if he stops by to play us some songs in Studio M, we'll have to ask him. The Olms is a collaboration between Pete Yorn and...

World's Worst iPod: Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor
Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Kitty used to be a Goth--almost
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture. I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons. 1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels. 2) I used to...
