At first I thought the punishment for Penn State handed down by the NCAA was perfect, but after further review I’m not so sure. The one thing the NCAA should have done was CANCEL the school’s football program for a year or two. Simply banning Penn State from bowl games isn’t really effective. Honestly, who cares if the team makes it to the Champs Sports Bowl or the Outback Bowl or the Holiday Bowl or Alamo Bowl? Do you even know where those games take place? If it’s not the BCS National Championship or the Rose Bowl no one really remembers.
This punishment may make Penn State students and athletes have an “us against them” mentality. That’s the last thing that should be happening. I don't think Penn State is pure evil or that any of the students who went to school there are evil. My in-laws both got degrees from Penn State.
The entire school shouldn't be judged by its twisted football program. A year off of football would send this simple message: Football is not the most important thing. The college experience will still be educational for those who go to Penn State. They might even learn a little more without the Saturday ritual of football. Heck, the Badgers sucked in football when I went to school here at the UW. They didn't go to any bowl games, but I still had a great college experience.
