As we approached the start of the school year, I did a little informal poll on Facebook, asking people what their favorite school supply was, and many answered "trapper keeper."
These items were not in existence when I went to school. By the name, I can deduct that it's something that not only traps items, but also keeps them. It is not a catch and release school supply.
So my assumption is then, that it is some kind of fancy schmancy folder. Wikipedia confirms this:
Trapper Keeper is a brand of loose-leaf binder created by Mead. Popular with students in the United States and parts of Latin America from the 1970s to the 1990s, it featured sliding plastic rings (instead of standard snap-closed metal binder rings), folders, and pockets to keep schoolwork and papers, and a wraparound flap with a Velcro closure (originally a metal snap closure).
Trapper Keepers usually had a theme, such as a cartoon, television show, or video game
I had to make do with regular old paper folders. As you see from the above picture, I did a pretty good job of decorating my own! This was a folder I used in 4th grade, and you can tell I was pretty much into the hippie peace-love-smiley face movement.
