There's a new Wizard of Oz movie coming out next year, and I think it might actually be good.
Now I say that with some trepidation since I'm a HUGE fan of the original 1939 MGM classic Wizard of Oz. It's been my favorite movie since I was three years old. I didn't like The Wiz, hated the book Wicked, but loved the Broadway musical.
The movie Oz: the Great and Powerful comes out next March. It's got a 200 million dollar budget (and no I'm not making that up), and comes from the guy who gave us the recent Spiderman trilogy.
I'm glad it's James Franco who's in it instead of Johnny Depp, because he tends to make roles a lot weirder than he needs to.(Playing the wizard of Oz seems like a role Depp would want, doesn't it?)
