New Kennedy Center honorees

There oughta be a helluva after-party.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced who will receive Kennedy Center Honors later this year. Included are Chicago bluesman Buddy Guy, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, David Letterman, and Dustin Hoffman.

Ballerina Natalia Makarova is also on the list, and I hear she can really belt one back. Actually I am not familiar with her but I'm sure she's a swell person.

The actual ceremony, which will happen in December and be aired on TV the night after Christmas, will probably be pretty stuffy. This is the gig where the honorees sit up in the balcony with the President and other dignitaries, and others get all sappy as they pay tribute to their heroes.

I'm thinking that Buddy Guy will have some pretty cool cats paying homage. I'm thinking Keith Richards will show up (and we might even be able to understand a word or two he says). Jonny Lang's been touring with Guy and has turned into quite the blues man, so he might get to do a song..and who knows what other blues luminaries might show up.

Led Zeppelin will probably be blessed by the guys from Green Day or Bon Jovi..or maybe Slash will put on his crazy big hat and pull off some Jimmy Page riffs.

Paul Schaeffer will have to in attendance to honor his boss David Letterman, and Meryl Streep will probably use  her acting skills to honor Dustin Hoffman.

There could be an all-star jam at the end of the show, featuring Letterman on maracas and Dustin Hoffman filling in for Jon Bonham on drums...but despite my earnest wishes that probably won't happen.

The real fun will start at the after-party when Robert Plant starts dancing around on the couches in his leather pants.

Who else still misses George?  George Harrison was born on today's date in 1943, and was only 58 when he died in 2001. I was interviewed by Channel 3 after he died, and I said it was truly sad for me, because I grew up with the Beatles and...
