Meet Lana Del Ray

Lana Del Ray is the female artist everyone is talking about.  The video for her single Video Games hit over two million views on youtube in just over two weeks.  She describes her sound as "Hollywood Sadcore".

Born Lizzy Grant the singer moved to New York City when she was 18 and started playing clubs in Brooklyn, the audiences made up mostly of friends and other underground musicians.  She tried to make it as a mainstream artist releasing an ep a couple years ago but failed.

So Grant went back to the drawing board, wrote some new songs and transformed herself.

The 24 year old explains, "I wanted a name I could shape the music towards.  I was going to Miami quite a lot at the time, speaking a lot of Spanish with my friends from Cuba - Lana Del Rey reminded us of the glamour of the seaside. It sounded gorgeous coming off the tip of the tongue."

1. U2- Songs of Innocence: One of my favorite English poets is, William Blake. Jim Morrison of the Doors was so inspired by Blake's poetry, he used one of Blake's lines, "the doors of perception," to name the Doors….the Doors! So, this U2 album,...

World's Worst iPod: Carl Douglas "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting"
It's hard to believe a novelty song like this went all the way up the charts to number one---but it did, and actually stayed there for two weeks! It seemed most everyone, excluding our meteorologist Brian Olson wanted to hear this song, which came...

Jeff the Promo Guy's Top 2014 Picks
2014 had a ton of great new album releases, and I easily came up with more than 10 to reference. I would have loved to include The Fray, Angus & Julia Stone, Bleachers, Alt-J, and George Ezra… but they just didn't make it on my Top 10 list. Here...
