"Kisses on the Bottom" is the name of Paul McCartney's new album of standards that comes out next month. He made that announcement official this week.
Blecch.
And I'm not just saying that about the album's title (which is a line from "I'm Going to Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter.")
I just don't want the Cute Beatle doing old fogey songs. I know, he's an old fogey. And I know that other artists have had success by recording oldies but goodies. I just don't want part of the most successful songwriting duos of the rock and roll era to do it.
I'd like to think that Paul has a thing or two up on Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow.
Some of the songs he's covering include "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive" and "The Inchworm," and "It's Only A Paper Moon."
I'm not entirely concerned why this bothers me, considering the Beatles themselves did some pretty schmaltzy covers. Any one remember "Tile There was You?" Not my favorite.
Maybe this is it... I'm concerned that this is a slippery slope. What's next?

Actually, I'd like to hear that one. I'd also like to hear Bono cover another Roger Miller song. Don't you think he could do wonders with "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd"?
