Madison Restaurant Week - Blue Marlin

The summer installment of Madison Magazine’s restaurant is underway!  My wife, Lindsay and I wasted no time in taking advantage of the amazing food and deals offered this week with a trip to The Blue Marlin on Sunday night.

Every time we go to The Blue Marlin we always ask ourselves why we don’t go there more often because it’s always so good.  Once again the Marlin did not disappoint.

We decided to dine outside.  The weather was perfect and the food was even better.
We both started off with Thai styled curried crab soup.  The combination of large crab chunks and Thai flavoring was delicious.  Deciding on the first course was tough because we also could have had a Caesar salad or steamed mussels.

For the main course, I went with the shrimp diablo which featured two large shrimp, penne pasta and chorizo.  The dish had a little kick to it which I always enjoy.  Lindsay went with the cornmeal crusted rainbow trout with cous cous tomato.  The chef had the perfect amount of cornmeal crust on the fish.  It wasn’t too heavy or too light.  The cous cous tomato was presented cold and was an ideal side dish to the trout.

For dessert Lindsay went with iced tea and lemon sorbets.  We had never had iced tea sorbet, but it was quite good.  In fact, Lindsay proclaimed it the best flavor of sorbet she’s ever tasted.  The combination with the lemon created a great summer drink in sorbet form and the butter cookie was the perfect topper.  I went with the chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream.  I love chocolate and think of myself as a brownie expert.  This brownie was fantastic as it had huge chunks of chocolate inside.

Madison restaurant week runs through Friday night!  Don’t let the week slip by without checking out one of the great restaurants offering  great meals for just $25.

Have you heard the song "Rumble and Sway" yet on Triple M? The singer sounds like a raspy blues dude who's definitely been around the block a few times....but surprisingly, Jamie N. Commons is only 23 years old! He was born in England, but...

New food of the week: Kale
Last week, I decided I would try one new, healthy food a week, and asked my facebook friends to make some suggestions. The first thing I tried was mango. I'm sure I've had other mango flavored things, and mango as part of something else, but...

World's Worst iPod: You Don't Bring Me Flowers
There's only one thing that might be worse than the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." And that's Jonathan Suttin doing his best crooning...doing both parts. Most unpleasant. A lot of people liked this song...

Getting It Tight
Last weeks challenge we thought went excellent! Of course we are a little biased. The drinking song couldn't have been any better, or any less fun. We had a blast through out the whole process, and our performance rocked. This week is an easy...

World's Worst iPod: The Girl is Mine by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney
So the story goes Michael Jackson completed this song while watching cartoons with Paul McCartney. We'll just let that sink in for a moment. Not sure what cartoons they were watching, but it must have worked because this song made it to number 2...

World's Worst iPod: Somethin' Stupid by Frank and Nancy Sinatra
This duet by Ol' Blue Eyes and his daughter went all the way to number 1 back in 1967. It seems a little creepy that Frank and Nancy Sinatra are singing a love song. However, a lot of Triple M listeners were in the mood for it. Here's...
