Hopefully he or she didn't know. That's all I can keep thinking about when I hear about the unclaimed 77 million dollar jackpot in Georgia. Yesterday was the last day the winner could step forward to collect the cash. No one did which means the money goes back into the pool.
There are so many questions that come to mind.
Is he or she really unorganized? Is there a huge pile of receipts for things like copy paper, staplers, a bag of groceries, a movie and 77 million dollars sitting on a desk?! Did the person play the same numbers each and every week? If so, they know they’re out 77 million.
If the person realized the ticket was missing, did he or she tell anyone? Can you imagine trying to approach your spouse with that news?!
My wife, Lindsay tends to misplace things, but she always seems to find them again within a day. The winner of this jackpot had 180 days to claim it.
I hope the winner is completely unaware they threw away the money, otherwise I imagine he or she would have to say “sorry” at least 77 million times to their family.
