It's been five years since The Shins have given us a new album. Back when Wincing The Night Away was released in '07, lead singer James Mercer and crew were coasting on a wave of indie adoration; they amassed legions of new fans after having their song "New Slang" prominently featured in the 2004 film Garden State (remember? that innocent, pre-Black Swan Natalie Portman proclaiming "You gotta hear this one song, it'll change your life I swear" to Zach Braff?). James Mercer took a detour with his side project Broken Bells for awhile, but indie rock lovers can breathe a sigh of relief as The Shins return with their fourth studio album, Port of Morrow, which was released today.
