Listen: More Alternative Holiday Tunes

Santa Stole My Lady Art I know, less than two weeks til Christmas, and you're willing and ready to join in the holiday spirit by listening to some holiday jams.  And I understand -- you are not a fan of this. Have no fear. I've wrangled up some more alternative songs of the festive nature to keep your ears company while you're decking the halls.

Fitz & the Tantrums - "Santa Stole My Baby"

Fitz & crew keep it sassy with this holiday original, "Santa Stole My Baby."

My Morning Jacket - "When The Bells Start Ringing"

Have yourself a twangy indie Christmas with this little number. This song, which is included on My Morning Jacket's new iTunes Session EP of holiday songs, also features The Head & the Heart. You can snag this song for free here

Best Coast/Wavves - "Got Something for You"

This holiday duet from real-life indie rock lovebirds Beth Cosentino (Best Coast) and Nathan Williams (Wavves) is a cute, lo-fi jingle gem (released last year).

The Dandy Warhols - "Little Drummer Boy"

Though it was originally released back in 1994, this is a mainstay in my annual holiday playlist. You can download it for free over here. And kudos to them, for crafting a cover of "Little Drummer Boy" that doesn't make me cringe!

Local Spotlight: Daniel & the Lion - "Ukulele Christmas"

Local musician and Project M alum Jimmie Linville fronts the folk duo Daniel & the Lion, who just released a collection of holiday songs. The album, aptly-titled The Christmas Album, features this original gem, "Ukulele Christmas," which you can scoop up for free here. Unsatisfied? You can pick up The Christmas Album here.

Happy Holidays!

1. First Aid Kit - Stay Gold Folk vintage - yet modern. The sister duo, which I thought may edge into the slightly obnoxious, was captivating. Their high pitched harmonies that ring throughout every song, sell every second. There were some seriously...

The problem with holiday sweaters--and it's not that they're ugly
Holiday sweaters--oh we love to mock them! Ugly holiday sweater parties have become so mainstream that I feel they are no longer ironic. But that's not what I'm going to gripe about. My problem is that ugly holiday sweaters are now becoming...

1. U2- Songs of Innocence: One of my favorite English poets is, William Blake. Jim Morrison of the Doors was so inspired by Blake's poetry, he used one of Blake's lines, "the doors of perception," to name the Doors….the Doors! So, this U2 album,...

World's Worst iPod: Carl Douglas "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting"
It's hard to believe a novelty song like this went all the way up the charts to number one---but it did, and actually stayed there for two weeks! It seemed most everyone, excluding our meteorologist Brian Olson wanted to hear this song, which came...

Rock Hall gets it right, honors Stevie Ray Vaughan
When the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2015 inductees this morning, I was very happy to see one of the names on the list: Stevie Ray Vaughan. Even though the late Texas guitar slinger has been eligible to get in since 2008, this is the...
