What does Jonathan have to say?

Like I Was Saying...

friends1I've heard before that men are able to see old friends and pick up right where they left off the last time they saw each other.  I now know this is a fact. On Thursday night, I went to a film at the Wisconsin Film Festival because a college friend of mine, Andrew Dickler was the editor of the film.  I hadn't seen Andrew or talked to him about 18  years.  However, when I called him on the phone it was like we had  just chatted the day before. Another one of my friends, Greg decided it would be fun to come in for the movie and visit Madison because he also hadn't been here in about 18 years.  Now I have to admit, Greg and I have had more communication since we graduated from the UW.  I've  probably talked to  him a whopping 7 times total on the phone in the last 18 years. Another one of  my college friends, Dan lives in Evansville and I didn't even know it.  He went out with us as well and there was no problem talking with each other.  It was like we just saw each other at the Union the day before. We all hung out on Friday night and  hit a few of the Madison bars.  There was never a lag in the conversation and we had some great laughs. We talked about our success and failure in relationships and work over the past 18 years.  No one was trying to brag.  I was interested in their lives  and they were interested in mine.  There was no competition with each other. At about 1:15 in the morning, we weren't sure if we should go to one more bar.  We were standing by the Capitol near The Inn on The Park Hotel.   Here was the ending conversation: Me: Um, I'm parked in the other direction. Greg: Well, I guess we're done. Andrew: Yeah, I'm going back to the hotel. (We all shook hands and there were some brief back patting) Me: Okay see you. Greg: Later, man. Andrew: Take it easy. And that  was it.  No long goodbyes or "We  really should get together more often" .  We were done and we knew it. I do have their cell phone numbers now and I know I could call them anytime.  Perhaps we'll talk again before another 18 years passes. Either way it's okay with me.

Yo-boy! Andrew must have been googling himself again, and he found this post by you. I agree with everything you say here, except that I hope we don't have to 18 to chat again. The end of the evening was sorta funny in its awkwardness, but it did sorta reinforce the comfort we all felt with each other, which was weird after so long a period of non-communication. It really was great to see you. Send me an email reply.

I concur with Greg. Andrew forwarded this to me. That is exactly how it felt. I tried to explain it to my class, but they are too young to get it. We'll have to hook up at the next Wilco show.

We still miss you Stevie Ray Vaughan
It's hard to believe it's been 24 years since we lost Stevie Ray Vaughan in that helicopter crash after a show at Alpine Valley. I've talked to lots of people who were at that concert, which also featured Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and...

World's Worst iPod: Donny Osmond "Soldier of Love"
It's hard to believe that Donny Osmond scored his second biggest solo hit in 1989, but it's true! "Soldier of Love" went all the way to #2 on the charts. When the song was released, the record company was afraid no one would buy a new Donny...

World's Worst iPod: Exile "Kiss You All Over"
Kitty thought this song was an example of country disco and was not a fan...but just about everybody else was. "Kiss You All Over" was #1 for four weeks in 1978, and was probably one of the year's best songs. Exile rocks out with the song here...

The next Jonny Lang? Quinn Sullivan is the real deal
I was up in Wausau for the Big Bull Falls Blues Fest, and had a great time watching all the great live music. The big surprise of the day was the guy who played at 3pm. He's just 15 years old and is a good friend of Buddy Guy, and even got to play...

World's Worst iPod: Young MC "Bust a Move"
Kitty apppeared to be all alone on her dislike of this song, which made it to #7 on the charts in 1989. Rolling Stone described the song this way: "a G-rated funk-bomb integral to hip-hop's eventual mainstream acceptance." The G-rating probably...
