Since I'm on the radio, I take snow days pretty seriously. I take pride in disseminating important information about road condtions and school closings.
But I was REALLY serious about it back in my earlier days in radio.
The first time we had a snow day when I was working full-time at WSPT in Stevens Point I was pretty psyched to get to work to help tell all of central Wisconsin what was going on.
Unfortunately, I was unable to get my little Pinto out of my driveway to get to work. This was not acceptable! I had to get there! How could the news team function without me?
I thought about walking, but realized that would take me most of morning drive.
So I did the next best thing. I called the police department and asked me to give me a ride, figuring it was a MATTER OF PUBLIC safety that I get there.
So how did that work out?
The dispatcher told me: "we are not a taxi service, ma'am."
She apparently did not appreciate how vitally important my contribution was to keeping all of Portage County safe!
So I called into work, and my colleagues did not share my alarm. They just told me to get in whenever I could, no big deal.
I was astonished, and dejected too. That's because I realized that I was probably the butt of jokes at the police station, because I had given my name!
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons.
1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels.
2) I used to...
