I don't want Elvis's toe tag

Here's a story that's creepy in so many ways. An auction house is going to sell to the highest bidder the autopsy tools used on Elvis Presley's body after his death. (Click here for the full story). This includes forceps, rubber gloves, lip brushes (?), eye liner and a toe tag marked John Doe (the original toe tag was stolen.) I love this quote, from auction house spokesperson Mary Williams: "It's really about owning a piece of the celebrity themselves ... and how much closer can you get than the actual embalming instruments." I'm pretty sure I don't want to get any closer than that. Here are some other things to add to my DON'T WANT LIST:

Sundog over Madison

Amidst all the traffic reports this morning, we got several calls from folks about the cool rainbow like image in the sky. We actually think it's a sundog, which is defined as a small or incomplete rainbow.  Or it could be a parhelion, which dictionary.com says is usually one of two or more bright circular spots seen on opposite sides of the sun, and often accompanied by additional luminous arcs and bands. Thanks to some Triple M listeners for sending in cool photos!  This one came from Katrina: sundog1 Samantha submitted this one: sundog2 And thanks to Lannia for this shot: sundog 3

Poem for Brett

favrejersey I was in emotional turmoil last night after hearing the news that Brett Favre was going to don the shirt of evil..the purple Vikings uniform. I was afraid I might not be able to get to sleep...so I did what I often do to work out my emotional angst. I got out my journal and wrote a poem. "Scorned" A sweet  love story Like some wine has now gone sour I still remember Our love in its finest hour And how you cried When you said you had to go I died inside And felt my tears overflow. This new betrayal hurts Yes, it really sucks. Now I really Don't give a flying...Lambeau Leap.

Is your school a party school?

beer-glasses1So the Princeton Review is out with another list of party schools, and oh joy, oh rapture, UW Madison is in the Top Ten. A few years ago we were on top of the list, fell off for a while, and now we're at #8. Now I know there are a lot of colleges out there that probably fit the parameters of the title "Party School," but because of their size or location, don't show up on those big time lists. So, thanks to the help of the inimitable and irrascible Joe Thompson, who filled in for Jonathan today, here's a list of things to look out for when you're trying to determine if your school is a party school. 1. A question on your calculus final starts this way, "There are 100 bottles of beer on the wall..." 2. A popular class is entitled "Beer terminology in Modern American Lexicon." (Prerequisite: "Wine Coolers 101") 3. Philosophy 100 question: "Tastes Great or Less Filling? Explain." 4. You can get phy. ed. credit for Beer Pong. 5. Keith Richards gave your commencement address, and 3 months later, he still hasn't left.

Kill Elmo 4. Dr. Kevorkian and the Suicide Machine 5. Stereophonic Toaster 6. Tall Dwarfs 7. Striptease Mining Company 8. Inflatable Widgets 9. Netherworld Dancing Toys 10. Streetwise Librarians Okay..here are the answers. 1,2,4, 6, and 9 are real bands from New Zealand. I believe that means the others are available!

A Wicked good time!

World's Worst iPod: Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor
Today's song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. It was inspired by the 1957 novel Doctor Zhivago. No one was inspired by the song this morning. It was rejected by almost all the listeners.
Kitty used to be a Goth--almost
Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture. I'm pretty sure I was a Goth for at least for little while, for two reasons. 1) I almost hardly ever wear pastels. 2) I used to...
