What does Kitty have to say?

Kitty's historic document

Sarah Palin's been getting some flack for her reinvention of the Paul Revere story. So I thought I'd present evidence of my advanced knowledge of United States history, even at a very early age. I believe I wrote this fine little essay when I was around 8 years old,  because I was bored.  I have no idea why I saved it; I found it among a bunch of childhood drawings that my mom had saved.I thought I'd share it with you in honor of the nation's upcoming birthday on July 4th. (Looks like it got cut off a bit on the right margin). I don't know, but I'm pretty sure the 8 year old Kitty could give Ms. Palin a run for her money on U.S. history.

Great stuff, Kitty. On the same subject, here's a poem written by a friend of mine based on "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" by Longfellow. Feel free to share this as you wish: "The True Story of the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere Listen up folks and lend an ear; I’ll tell you the true story of Paul Revere. In the middle of the night in seventy-five, Hardly a soul is still alive Who knows what really happened that famous year. Paul said to his comrade, “We’ll watch tonight For the British to come into our sight. You hang a lantern or two in the old North Church, But I’m not quite sure who we should warn first. If the British come by land or by sea, We should really warn them of what they might see. We should let them know an ambush is planned In the villages and farms of this fine land. The citizens are sound asleep in their beds. When I shout out my call, they’ll be ready,” Paul said. “The Brits should know they’re in for a surprise When they head out of town before sunrise.” “But, wait,” said his friend with a puzzled frown. “I don’t get why we’d warn them of what’s going down. I thought the plan was to create a surprise, And wait to see the shock in their eyes.” “I don’t see it that way,” said Paul with a smile. Just humor me here for a little while. Don’t you think it would be cool to flaunt it a bit And give them a heads-up and then make our hit?” “You give a shout out from the top of your perch In the belfry tower of the old North Church. You let them know we see them coming; Then I’ll say giddy-up and start out running. I’m sure I can beat it down the trail Before those Redcoats are on my tail. They might be forewarned of what is planned, But we’ll still be the victors in this fair land!” And that, my folks, is what really went down When the British came into town On the eighteenth of April in seventy-five. You may think they were totally surprised When they crept through the town under darkened skies But they already knew what was in store And still we were able to send them ashore. This is a satirical twist on the poem, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, inspired by the recent faux pas by the former governor of Alaska who said Paul Revere was warning the British when he went out that night." Written by Jan Berezowitz, Darien, Wisconsin, June 8, 2011.

One small detail I like about Bonnaroo ... the security people's shirts say "Safety" and "Here to help". They seem well-trained and they do the things security folk do ... but I like the emphasis on safety and that they're doing these things...
