Lost Fortune
Hopefully he or she didn't know.  That's all I can keep thinking about when I hear about the unclaimed 77 million dollar jackpot in Georgia.   Yesterday was the last day the winner could step forward to collect the cash.  No one did which means the money goes back into the pool.

There are so many questions that come to mind.

Is he or she really unorganized?  Is there a huge pile of receipts for things like copy paper, staplers, a bag of groceries, a movie and 77 million dollars sitting on a desk?!  Did the person play the same numbers each and every week?  If so, they know they’re out 77 million.

If the person realized the ticket was missing, did he or she tell anyone?  Can you imagine trying to approach your spouse with that news?!

My wife, Lindsay tends to misplace things, but she always seems to find them again within a day.  The winner of this jackpot had 180 days to claim it.

I hope the winner is completely unaware they threw away the money, otherwise I imagine he or she would have to say “sorry” at least 77 million times to their family.

Ugly Sweaters Beautiful Night
Thanks to everyone who came out for our Live From Studio M CD release party last night at Pasqual's.  It was great to see old friends and make some new ones as well.  Madison's very ownThe Mighty Short Bus played a great set and the band Scars on 45 flew all the way in from California just to perform. As soon as the show was over, the gang from Scars on 45 were back on the road headed to Detroit.

We thought it would be fun to wear some ugly holiday sweaters, but it appears no one else besides the Triple M staff thought that would be a good idea.  Thanks to Jeanenne Carlson a long time listener, who we call Auntie Beans, for sending me this picture.

Haven't picked up Live from Studio M Volume 7 yet?  You can visit The Exclusive Company on State Street both Pasqual's locations (Hilldale mall and Monroe street) or order it here.

The end of "The Rat Race"
Life is hard. We’ve all had ups and downs when it comes to personal and business relationships. Many times people will talk about the difficulty of the rat race we’re all running. You dirty rat is a great saying, even if James Cagney didn’t exactly say it that way in the movies.

However, the time has come to stop using the rat to represent the cutthroat world of humans.  It appears rats are pretty compassionate

Researchers at the University of Chicago ran some tests where one rat was trapped in a cage and another rat was free.  There was also some chocolate chips in an easy access container nearby.  The free rat had several choices.  He or she could just eat the chips and laugh at the other rat trapped in the cage, which sounds like something some of my friends might do to me.  The rat could also eat the chips and then free the other rat.   Or the free rat could liberate the other rat and share the chocolate chips.

What do you think happened?

In most cases the rat would free the other rat first and then SHARE the chocolate chips.

After reading that story, I thought about all our arguments over health care and raising taxes and how it divides us. If the rats acted more like us, the free rat could eat all the chocolate himself and blame the other rat for being put into the cage. After all, if the caged rat would have just studied a little harder in school or perhaps worked a little harder he wouldn’t be in the cage.  Right?

Isn’t that the logic some people here in the United States use for poorer people in our society? I can hear it now, “If he just worked a little harder, he could afford health care for his family.”

I’m not just going to point the finger and those who have a lot of cash. I think we all could take a lesson from the rats and show a little more compassion. I have to admit, I often don’t make eye contact with a homeless person begging for change. How about you?

I Can't Bears It
Breathe deeply.

It’s just a game.

I have no control over the outcome of any professional sporting competition.

These are a few of the things I have to say to myself this NFL season. Yesterday the Chicago Bears were able to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. In case you missed it, good for you.

All you need to know as that Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos were able to win yet again. Tebow wears his religion right on the front of his uniform and openly prays during the game.

So does this really mean God loves Tim Tebow and hates the Chicago Bears?

No.

Back in 2001, the Bears went 13 and 3. They won a few games they probably shouldn’t have won. In fact, there were two games in which safety Mike Brown returned to interceptions for wins in overtime. It was unbelievable and it seemed like the Bears were a team of destiny.  The ball bounced the Bears way that season, but then suddenly it didn’t.   They lost in the playoffs to the Philadelphia Eagles.

When it comes to sports, I believe things even out.

God is not interested in rooting for one football team over another.

Although, I’m starting to wonder if Yahweh did buy some shares of Green Bay Packers stock when it went on sale last week.

I Can't Believe I'm Defending Michele Bachmann BUT...
I am in favor of gay marriage.

I DO NOT believe someone decides to be gay.

I believe two gay men or two gay woman can raise children as good as, if not better, then hetrosexual parents.

However, I'm disappointed in what happened at a Michele Bachmann book signing in South Carolina.  An 8-year-old boy approached Bachmann and said, "My mommy's gay, but she doesn't need any fixing."

If the boy was speaking from the heart, I would say it is amazing.  It sure doesn't look that way in the video.  He seems extremely shy and his mom is pushing him to say what seems to be a rehearsed line.

I agree his mommy does not need any fixing when it comes to her sexual orientation, but I think she might need a little fixing when it comes to being a parent.

This is almost as bad as those little kids I've seen at anti-choice rallies holding up signs taking about abortion being murder.

It would be inspiring if this boy, who is named Elijah, was a little older and calmly walked up to Bachmann and said something like, "I've been raised by two women and I am doing well in school.  I am well adjusted and plan on going to college in a few years. I think my two moms have done a great job in raising me.”

Watch the video and you’ll something very different. I’m sorry but using your kid as a tool to get your point across is just wrong not matter how right you are about the issue.

Favre Logic
So there's been some "talk" about Brett Favre coming to the Chicago Bears. The reports say Favre would listen to the Bears if they had something to say, BUT that doesn't mean he would come out of retirement to play for them. The report goes on to say  Bears head coach Lovie Smith isn't interested in adding Favre to the roster.

Common sense should tell you one thing:

Favre will be in a Bears uniform in time for the game against the Packers on Christmas night.

It doesn't make sense, but that's the way sports seems to work.  Think about it.  When a manager gets a vote of confidence from his boss,  what happens the next day?  He gets fired.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense. Since Favre is not really sure he wants to play AND the Bears are not interested in him joining the team that he'll be back in the NFL by next week.

And Now These Messages...
Have you ever fallen into the black hole of You Tube?  You head to that website to view something important like an old commercial or perhaps the opening credits to some old show like Soap.

This morning Kitty and I were looking for the Mr. Bubble theme song for a very important story we were talking about regarding bubbles being banned in the Wisconsin State Capitol building.

While searching for the Mr. Bubble song, I found this great commercial.  I've seen it before, but forgot about it.

It's so funny, I have to share it with you. These days our attention span is much shorter, but please give this commercial the FULL 60 seconds it deserves. You won't be disappointed.

Not Funny Anymore
This morning Kitty did a story about David Zucker creating some tourism ads for Wisconsin.  Zucker is one of the guys who created the classic comedy movie Airplane back in 1980.  I was about 12 years old when the movie came out and I remember seeing it with my parents.  I also remember my mom laughing so hard, she was almost crying. I also loved that movie and still quote from it.

Sadly, there's one part of the movie that is now quite offensive.   The scene is in the cockpit where Kareem AbduI-Jabbar and Peter Graves are flying the plane.  A young passenger comes up to visit them.  The part that still remains funny is the kid recognizing Abdul-Jabbar.  Everyone else thinks the legendary basketball player is a co-pilot, but once the kid starts tellling Abdul-Jabbar that  he doesn't play defense,  Kareem loses his cool.  Totally funny.

However, the other part of that scene is now very disturbing.  Peter Graves keeps talking to the little boy and asking him things like, "Have you ever seen a grown man naked?" or "Do you like movies with gladiators?"

Peter Graves is a child molestor in the movie.  Why is that funny?  I remember quoting those lines time and time again with my friends.  We knew the joke.  Graves' character wanted to have sex with the little boy.  Why didn't anyone find it offensive back then?   We should have!

I'm not saying Airplane should be boycotted.  I still like the movie, but in the wake of the problems at Penn State and Syracuse jokes about men hitting on little boys is not a joke.

Here's the scene again if you haven't seen it lately.
