I've begun my journey of getting in better shape at Capital Fitness in downtown Madison. I've enlisted a couple of trainers at the club, Brian and Pete to help me out.
So is this going to work?
At first I thought there was no way. Pete and Brian had me do some simple things like closing my eyes and standing on one foot or walking in place with my eyes closed. I wasn't that good at it and no I didn't have anything to drink before hand.
Why was this hard? Brian and Pete explained to me that a lot of muscles in my body weren't being used properly and in some cases they weren't being used at all. Therefore other muscles were picking up the slack and that what was making me unbalanced...literally.
Think about it. The way you sit at your desk everyday can have a big impact on your body. They found that I wasn't sitting up straight so certain muscles were becoming weaker and weaker.
They've started me with some simple exercises like stepping one foot onto a step stool and then stepping down. Sounds simple, but I found doing it ten times in a row was a bit tiring. However, it helped me create a little better balance and started to activate muscles in my legs and butt.

Today is World Goth Day, a day to celebrate the post-punk, anti-establishment, dark clothes-wearing subculture.
