Is this cereal commercial too violent?
We've been talking about breakfast cereals this week on our show, because we've been giving away tickets to Stephen Kellogg at the High Noon Saloon in October.
And that got me to thinking about some of my favorite cereals when I was a kid. It's probably not a surprise that one of my favorites was Sugar Smacks, the cereal with the highest sugar content of any cereal.
I recall eating as much as half a box, dry, in a single sitting. Sugar Smacks were more like candy than cereal.
I also remembered that before Dig 'em the Frog, there were two brothers that were used to hawk the sugary Kelloggs treat, and as I recall, they were a little violent.
While this one doesn't include the phrase "Give me a smack and I'll smack ya back," it does encourage siblings to pound on each other.
But don't think that Sugar Smacks was the only product encouraging violence in the '60s and '70s, I present this:
