What does Jonathan have to say?

I Can't Believe I'm Defending Michele Bachmann BUT...

I am in favor of gay marriage.

I DO NOT believe someone decides to be gay.

I believe two gay men or two gay woman can raise children as good as, if not better, then hetrosexual parents.

However, I'm disappointed in what happened at a Michele Bachmann book signing in South Carolina.  An 8-year-old boy approached Bachmann and said, "My mommy's gay, but she doesn't need any fixing."

If the boy was speaking from the heart, I would say it is amazing.  It sure doesn't look that way in the video.  He seems extremely shy and his mom is pushing him to say what seems to be a rehearsed line.

I agree his mommy does not need any fixing when it comes to her sexual orientation, but I think she might need a little fixing when it comes to being a parent.

This is almost as bad as those little kids I've seen at anti-choice rallies holding up signs taking about abortion being murder.

It would be inspiring if this boy, who is named Elijah, was a little older and calmly walked up to Bachmann and said something like, "I've been raised by two women and I am doing well in school.  I am well adjusted and plan on going to college in a few years. I think my two moms have done a great job in raising me.”

Watch the video and you’ll something very different. I’m sorry but using your kid as a tool to get your point across is just wrong not matter how right you are about the issue.

Maybe...
She and her son were talking before the event and the mother explained to Elijah that Michele Bachman wants to " fix her", and that's why they were going to see her. perhaps the young man simply loves his mother and was defending her. We really don't know all the details of this story.

Or...
Having worked in an elementary school for a couple of years, I know it sometimes takes very shy kids time to say what they want. Kudos to this little boy.. I see him as hope for the future.
