Grilled Cheese Gourmet

grilledcheeseA big event is happening in Los Angeles this weekend..the 1st 7th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational. Tim Walker, the event’s founder and organizer, says it's the greatest combination of bravery and unnecessarily competitive cheese the world has seen since Neil Diamond’s 2008 world tour.”  Not only will there be a cheese sandwich grilling competition, organizers plan cheese-themed poetry, comedy, cheesey  music and exhibition cheese grilling to create "one of the most unique, entertaining and delicious events ever witnessed." Not to mention free grilled cheese sandwiches, made with Kraft singles. That all sounds pretty darn cool..but why isn't it happening in Wisconsin--the DAIRY STATE?   I don't buy all that nonsense about California cheese coming from happier cows. Maybe before Arnold Schwarzennegger was governor, but not now.  Cows are very deficit conscious. Mainly I'm jealous..because I'd love to attend this event. I've already started working on some cheese poetry. Give me more more cheese If you please Some Swiss, cheddar and colby Wait...what rhymes with colby? Bonus content for those of you you have read to the end of this blog: Kitty's Delicious and Yummy Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe Spread some bread (preferably whole grain) with whatever butter type product you like. Sprinkle with Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb blend.  With butter side out, place cheese between the two slices of bread. I recommend medium cheddar or Colby Jack, thickly sliced. Grill in your George Foreman grill, or in a skillet if you're so inclined. Pay attention so that it doesn't burn. Enjoy!

Fear not, Kitty -- you can taste all the cool artisan and specialty cheese your heart desires at the new Wisconsin Original Cheese Festival this fall at the Monona Terrace. On Nov. 6-7, dozens of Wisconsin cheesemakers will be on hand during two days of cheese tasting, tours, educational seminars and a dine around with Madison Originals restaurants. It's going to be great fun - mark your calendar now!
